stop, flannel time.
since i happen to be wearing a tartan plaid skirt with a t-shirt, a black hoodie, denim jacket (pinned with a "winona forever" button no less!), and my beat-to-all-hell black cons today (regress much?), i figured now is a good time to mention this awesome new photo book grunge, by michael lavine. it's a subject near and dear to my heart and michael was totally there, capturing the scene way before it reached my lil' suburb of los angeles and my teeny-tiny barely teenage ears. i mentioned a looooong time ago how my mind was blown when i found out he was behind the mother of all kurt & courtney photos (sassy! r.i.p.) and now with this project he's given us an early 90s yearbook of all the bands that mattered (smashing pumpkins, nirvana, sonic youth, mudhoney, L7, etc.!) and all the kids that loved them. oh, and with a foreword by thurston moore?? SOLD.

the greatest cape.
oh etsy, why do you tempt me with your handmade adorableness? this pretty perfect number from bomb 'n belle is killing me softly. it soooo fits my current nancy drew obsession. all i'd need is a roadster and a mystery.

dace in the hole.
i'm probably the last person on the interwebs to realize this, but that girl with all the cool? that i spotted on audrey hepburn complex? with the bag made of daydreams (mine, in particular)? she's from the dace s/s 2010 lookbook! and there is additional evidence of her badassery. seriously, look at this girl, nothing could faze her. then again, if i was fully outfitted in dace, i bet nothing could faze me either.

just my cuppa.
how badly do i want the new cookbook from my favorite aussie mag, frankie? even more than i want those delectable looking macaroons on the cover in my mouth so you KNOW that is a lot. they had me at afternoon tea, but when i read that the 40 recipes had been hand-picked and handed down through generations of mums and nannas, well, it just solidified my resolve to get my hands on this import. cause when it comes to treats, mums and nannas know what from what. for sure.

gemma in the rough.
i've got a serious art crush on illustrator gemma correll. her little characters are so round and funny, i just want to keep them in my pocket. i especially love her "what i wore" drawings because, really, how CUTE is she?!? so cute.

calendar girl.
i always get a little case of the post-holiday blues come january, but with a calendar like this to look forward to (by blanca gomez, maker of adorable things!), i think i'd make it through ok.

envy.
the photos on my maybe all-time favorite tumblr, audrey hepburn complex, are so soft and beautiful, i just want to live in them. seriously, how does she find all these perfect pics?? each one makes me want something different. like, red hair for instance.
or a new old typewriter.a swirled coif.
or an afternoon at the ice rink.
these shoes, and a rainy day to wear them on.and one ounce of this girl's cool. or maybe just her awesome bag. i really, really need a new bag.

crushing out.
ok, so i know this blog isn't really new anymore (kate gave the heads up about it way back in august), but it somehow fell off my radar until yesterday when i got to spend a good 20 minutes catching up and i gotta say, these girls have killer taste. from miranda july to mika miko to jane birkin to lindsay weir (!!!), andrea and meg* are seriously dialed in to the majority of my obsessions. now, if they would just post about 1990s drew or maeby funke, our kindred spiritness will be sealed.
*also, as i was linking meg's name i realized she is not just an internet stranger i admire from afar (aka my laptop), i actually totally met this meg a few weeks ago at a dinner and she is awesome, so duuuh, of course i like all the things she likes and that's even MORE reason to bookmark this genius!

it's a dead man's party.
i spent thursday night with ryan gosling. and by spent, i mean stood in a small sea of people at le poisson rouge and watched him play music that is actually waaaaay better than you'd expect it to be for the whole actor-starts-a-band biz. no really, i swear. i know exactly what you're thinking but trust me on this one. or just watch the vid below. it's a pretty good example of dead man's bones deal: zombies, cemeteries, gothy folkness, creepy-cool children's choir vocals, and old-timey spookiness. oh, and ryan gosling. did i mention that? the rest of your october is just begging for this soundtrack.
this was the scene. the zombie kids killed it. i think that's the back of my head down there in the right hand corner.
if only this had been my view.

starstruck.
a few months ago, i got my astrological charts done (yeah, that's them. now you reeeeaaallly know me!), and got down to the nitty-gritty of being born on october 14th. the best thing that came out of it? i can now legitimately blame all my shortcomings on the stars. you think i'm bossy? oooh, not my fault! tell it to the stratosphere!anyway, my life is full of libras, and i don't think it's a coincidence. i'm a libra. my mom's a libra. my roomie's a libra. i also happen to be in love with a libra:
and it's his birthday today. i see a celebratory piece of pie and a coupla mugs of coffee in our future. luff.

gotta get sublet.
last night i got to hang with the super rad ladies behind sublet clothing (stay tuned to numnum for a special guest food adventure! can you guess who the guests are? can you? there may have been lobster involved, that's all i'm sayin'.). so what better time to gush about their sweet and simple fall collection? all these perfect pleats are giving me palpitations. i'll take the deborah dress, the delilah skirt, and a side of that strawberry blonde's gorgeous mane. mmmkay, thaaaaanks.

ssaaahrry.
my drewdoration (drew + adoration = ridiculous new word that should totally already exist in the world) is not even close to a secret, so how stoked was i to get back to my hotel saturday night (yay for a weekend in philly! more on that later) just in time to find out she was hosting snl?? i know i'm in the minority on this, but i freaking love kristen wiig's gilly sketch (to the MAX) so this little number was like a double-bowed afro'd blessing bestowed by the comic powers that be. (the only thing missing is bill hader. hearts.)

dem bones.
can we talk about ebony bones? just for a second? cause this girl is cray-cray. in the best way possible. like if lady gaga and lauryn hill had a three-way with joseph AND his amazing technicolor dreamcoat. the hair, the tights, the sequins, the giantess dookie chains, seriously...HOW.

and now for something completely different.
it was 40 years ago today that the first episode of monty python's flying circus aired and what can i say? i love me some monty python. thanks to my brit heritage, i was practically raised on that stuff. i can probably recite the holy grail in its entirety. and john cleese? don't even get me started on his genius (fawlty towers?! i die. diiiiieeee.). even better? he's totally nice and hilarious irl too. thanks to my first job outta college i've fetched him many a triple soy latte and he's even seen my bare feet thanks to a slightly embarrassing p.a. duty i had to perform. how could he not be awesome, the man invented silly walks. i mean C'MON. to the pythons!! way to be a laugh riot guys.

ruffles 'n' bows.
my mad men addiction has me kind of obsessed with the prim and proper look the ladies of the early 60s sported. but what i reeeeally love, is when the housedresses come off and we get a peek at their amazing vintage underwear (last season's valentine's episode had me dying to steal the teddy right off betty's back. seriously). these high-waisted lovelies from loulou loves you (that i spotted on neet) have a touch of that old-school sassy class. in other words, i totally want them.

twiggin' out.
sometimes (ok, most of the time), i wish i could be a cute little mod in swingin' sixties london, scootin' around, shopping at biba, stalking the beatles, and being generally, you know, revolutionary.

chain reaction.
how did i miss these amazing rings by valerie rubinaccio on refinery 29 last week? i love them in a big way. but i also have visions of getting them hopelessly tangled in everything from my hair to my shoelaces. i better pass. and console myself by tracking down that amazing gunmetal gray nail polish!!
